Rage Play Auditions

Flux Theatre Ensemble is casting Rage Play, written by Nandita Shenoy and directed by Lori Elizabeth Parquet, running March 28 through April 11, 2020 at Abrons Arts Center. The production will work under the AEA Showcase Code, with rehearsals beginning on or around March 2. Actors will be compensated at least $500 and reimbursed for travel. Prior to production, we’re conducting a final workshop of Rage Play in February, for which actors will be compensated $250.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, December 14, from 3 to 6pm, and Sunday, December 15, from 3 to 6pm. To schedule an audition, please contact fluxcasting@gmail.com.

Character Descriptions

Ay: cis woman of color, any age; smart, ferocious, and angry; in the world of the theater, she would be a creative.

Bea: cis woman of color, any age; diplomatic, systematic, thoughtful; in the world of the theater, she would be a stage manager.

CeCe: cis white woman, any age; delicate, fickle, emotional; in the world of the theater, she would be an actor who plays ingénues.

Man: cis man, 35+, white; a chameleon, a composite, the antagonist who wants to be liked; in the world of the theater, he would be the director or producer, someone who wields his power with entitlement. He is the face of the Patriarchy, a person who benefits from a system without acknowledging his privilege or the detriment of the system to others.

Please note that while the characters are written as cisgender and heterosexual, queer and trans women and men are encouraged to audition.

Play Synopsis:  Three women stand over the man they’ve killed, struggling to understand how it happened and why he keeps coming back to life. Again and again and again. Inspired by the #MeToo movement, Nandita Shenoy’s outrageous black comedy Rage Play explores the cost women face in fighting back against misogyny and patriarchy, and how they might be complicit in these systems. Through their purgatory, the women aim for liberation…and maybe even a little sweet revenge. Learn more here.

Core Work Auditions

Flux is holding auditions for Core Work, with a specific focus on building new relationships with transgender artists as well as female MENA (North African & Sudanese) artists.  Please email fluxcasting@gmail.com to set up a time on Saturday, December 14, from 7 to 8:30pm and Sunday, December 15, from 1-2:30pm. Auditions will be held at TCG, located at 520 8th ave, on the 24th floor, between 36th and 37th street.

Core Work is a weeknight gathering, usually from 6-9pm, every two weeks. It is hosted and organized by the Flux Creative Partners, and collaboratively programmed by all participants. Rather than traditional auditions, we’ll engage in conversation and generative theatre-making with groups of potential Core Work participants. When you join Core Work, you’re joining a collective of theatre artists and activists with a shared agency in shaping our work. While there is no compensation for bi-weekly Core Work programs, all projects that move forward into more formal development processes access a pool of resources for participant compensation. Learn more about Core Work here.

Flux is focusing specifically on developing relationships with MENA artists and transgender artists to help develop Revolution/Train by Salma Zohdi and Pack by Corinna Schulenburg respectively. However, this is not a transactional invitation. It is our hope that whomever we find will fully participate in all Core Work projects, including bringing their own work to the room.

If you’re not a transgender and/or MENA artist, but you’d like to be considered for future Core Work opportunities, please feel free to write fluxcasting@gmail.com.
