DEINDE Artist – Sol Marina Crespo

This interview series looks at the artists of our ForePlay Human 2.0 and DEINDE.

Who are the only two actors to appear in three straight Flux shows? If you guessed Sol Marina Crespo and Candice Holdorf, then you are the lucky winner! Sol has been in every Flux shows since Ajax In Iraq, mostly because she is not only incredibly talented, but hard-working and an absolute joy to be around. She is also a playwright, contributing the hilarious Hey Girl to our Human 2.0 series.

What crazy invention are you most looking forward to in the future?
I want the beam me up Scottie machine. Love to travel, hate to fly. (and a Ryan Gosling clone for Anna, of course).

In 2051, theatre will be___
____trying to reclaim the past. Right now we are kind of obsessed with the future and how semi-apocalyptic it will be, but I feel once 2051 gets here we’ll want to grasp those things that we took for granted. Real props instead of holograms, for example.

For the human race to evolve, it will need to___
___quit smoking and practice yoga, at least 3 times a week.

A time-travelling-you from the future suddenly appears with something important to tell present-you. What do they have to say?
6 tattoos is enough. Also, keep on keeping on! It gets better and better and better and…

Will the future be more like Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, or the Jetsons?
What, no Futurama??

If you had the opportunity to think and feel directly into a computer, would you take it?
Knowing what I know… I’d pass.

What do you have coming up in the near future that you want our readers to know about?
I would our readers to know that I am currently seeking representation and to also come see Deinde!

Tell us about your character – what have been some of the surprises, challenges and joys you’ve found in playing Mindy?
Playing Mindy has been a lot of fun. She’s strong and opionated. She has a lot of love to give and a lot more to say. I love that she doesn’t run away from her challenges, she faces them head on even though they might be heart breaking.

This is Sol’s third time on the Flux stage. Recently, she played Corey in Menders and Sickles/Chorus in Ajax in Iraq. For Pregones Theater: Aloha Boricua, Las facultades, Game Over, The Beep. For Full of Noises: Glinda in Wizard of Oz, Hermione in Andromache. Other credits include: Anna in Closer; Carla in Kennedy’s Children; Patria Mirabal in Las Hermanas Mirabal. For her performance of Griseldi in The Missteps of a Salsa Dancer she was awarded the HOLA award for Outstanding Performance of a Featured Actress. solmarina.com
