Flux Sunday: 2/24/13

(What is Flux Sunday?)

The smiles in the picture above pretty much capture the spirit of yesterday’s Flux Sunday. We’d taken the previous week off to celebrate the beautiful nuptials of Creative Partner Kelly O’Donnell to her wonderful wife, Kristy Caldwell, and that happy spirit pervaded yesterday’s work.

We were once again at Ken and Kris’ place, and luckily, we had a smaller turnout that fit the space well:

Playwrights: Johnna Adams (Goblins Go), Marielle Duke (Haroun and the Sea of Stories), August Schulenburg (He Unshe)

Directors: Isaiah Tanenbaum, Marielle, Gus

Actors: Ridley Parson, Shaun B. Fauntleroy, Jennifer Somers Kipley, Ken Glickfeld, Matthew Trumbull, Holly, Stephanie Willing, Rachael Hip-Flores, Alisha Spielmann, Alyssa Simon, Sarah Amandes, Alexis Thomason

Highlights included:
-How about Marielle’s debut as a playwright? I was totally captivated by her adaptation of Rushdie’s children’s book, helped along by Jen’s heartfelt and plucky Haroun, and Ken’s theatrical Rashid. Fun fun fun (and a great use of the space). Ark!
-The family dynamics of Ridley, Shaun and Matt were just about as much fun as you’d expect in Johnna’s twisted comedy (?), Goblins Go. I love Izzy’s quick and somehow believable embrace of his future as a Saudi sex-slave.
-Stephanie and Alisha rocking Bobby Brown’s My Prerogative. Nuff said.

If you were there, what drop of the sea of stories will you wear around your neck in a bedazzled vial?
