THE ELEPHANT PLAY Spotlight: Imani Pearl

Our workshop of The Elephant Play may be over (for now), and we’ve at last reached our final spotlight! We were absolutely delighted to work with Flux first-timer Imani Pearl. The questions below are inspired by the play—stay tuned for updates on next steps for this gorgeous work-in-progress.

Do you have a favorite fact about elephants? If so, please share it.

They communicate using vibrations!!! Which is wild cuz their ears are so big!

Who is your favorite fictional pachyderm?

DUMBO!!

Did you ever met an elephant in real life? If so, what was it like?

No, but I wish.

Elephants are fabled to never forget. What’s your memory like these days?

My memory is actually pretty good these days 🙂

Have you ever felt separated from your herd?

Being a Black, queer femme = All the damn time.

Do you have anything coming up that you want us to shout out on social?

I’ll be directing a summer intensive theatre camp at Two Rivers Theatre in NJ for the month of July!

How can people follow your work?

Imani Pearl (she/they) is so excited to get to play in such an incredible piece! Recently they made their Off and On Broadway debuts in Love and Science (Melissa) and 1776: The Revival (Standby), respectively. “If you can change your mind, you can change your life.” @imanipearlz
