ZIN GALACTIC Spotlight: Rachael Hip-Flores

Comments Off on ZIN GALACTIC Spotlight: Rachael Hip-Flores

We’re thrilled to continue spotlighting the creative team of Zin Galactic and the Saloon at the Edge of the Universe by Adam Szymkowicz directed by Heather Cohn! Rachael Hip-Flores plays ARIEL, a hotshot pilot turned singer in a bar (typecasting). Rachael acted in Adam’s Hearts Like Fists and Hearts Like Planets, and collaborated with Heather as director on Flux classics like Sans Merci, Once Upon a Bride There Was A Forest, and Salvage. In other words, Flux’s commitment to long-term collaboration is alive and well in this power triad of Creative Partners!

The questions are inspired by Adam’s joyful play—make sure to RSVP for the in-NYC 2/16 reading at 7:00pm ET!

You pull up a stool at the Saloon at the Edge of the Universe. What’s your drink order?

Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. You don’t do that here? Whiskey. Neat. Double. I SAID DOUBLE.

Share a song that puts you in a fascism-fighting mood.

LOOK! No one has ever accused me of having impeccable taste in music. And most of these are not specifically anti-fascist, but they do make me feel aggressively free, which I think is kinda the point?
Bon Jovi’s Livin’ On A Prayer, obvi. And/or its spiritual sequel, It’s My Life. Shut up, they’re perfect songs.
Third Eye by Florence and the Machine.
Heroes by David Bowie.
The Gods Love Nubia, from Aida.
Mulher do Fim do Mundo, Elza Soares.
Raise Your Glass, Pink
Seven Nation Army, White Stripes
…y’know what, screw it, Tubthumping by Chumbawumba
White Flag by Joseph
(I APOLOGIZE FOR NONE OF THIS!!!)
Bruce Springsteen, Born to Run
One Day More from Les Miz
Renegades of Funk, Rage Against the Machine
Warriors (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power theme song) by Aaliyah Rose
Many, many others that I will kick myself for not including.

(Later, Rachael added the following)

Joy to the World and Shambala, both by Three Dog Night

If you were a robot capable of making only a single sound, what would that sound be?

Uuuuuuuugggggghhhhhh.

What book would you recommend if you were a resistance librarian?

The His Dark Materials trilogy is my go-to for any and all, and particularly The Amber Spyglass. Republic of Heaven, mofos.
