Flux Sunday, 7/8

Now, that’s how you do it, that’s how a Flux Sunday is supposed to run, jampacked with awesome and ending right on time (well, a minute over). We had our biggest attendance since we started meeting again in July, and some truly great work was done.

Playwrights: Fengar Gael (Island of No Tomorrows), David Ian Lee (Mass), August Schulenburg (Tidal Devices)

Directors: Pete Boisvert, Heather Cohn, Marielle Duke, David Ian Lee

Actors: Shaun B.Wilson, Becky Byers, Ken Glickfeld, Kathleen Wise, Isaiah Tanenbaum, Carissa Cordes, Marianne Miller, Jordan Dynieski, Alyssa Simon, Anna Lamadrid, Matthew Trumbull, Stephanie Willing, Kari Swenson Reily, Ryan Andes, Maria Portman Kelly

Highlights:

– Wow, did David Ian Lee turn the heat up on Fengar Gael’s Island of No Tomorrows! Thanks in part to an absurdly talented ensemble, this play leapt to gripping life, with especially charming turns from Stephanie Willing as the sweetly daft Roza and Marianne Miller as the fiercely focused Maria.
-Alyssa Simon and Matt Trumbull falling for each other in David’s Mass was a purely sweet and enchanting way to end the session – what an easy chemistry they had! (If only Dara and Nemerov had met…)
-Anna La Madrid and Becky Byers in their counting money battle will surely go down as one of the best bits of FS business this year. I could watch that for hours.
-But personally, the final scene of Tidal Devices directed by Heather and featuring beautifully tuned work by Ryan, Shaun and Maria moved me to tears. Yes, it’s my own play, I know, but they managed to capture the pain, longing and grace of that scene surprisingly well.

If you were there, what do you remember?
