God Splat spotlight: Chester Poon

We’re thrilled to continue spotlighting the creative team for God Splat (or Love and Death in Nine Parts) by Adam Szymkowicz with Chester Poon! Already this year, we’ve collaborated with Chester as an actor in Rebecca Roman Redd at the Most Dangerous Hour and as a playwright in developing The Hardest Goodbye. Chester will also be appearing in the upcoming workshop of The Elephant Play. The questions are inspired by Adam’s beautiful play—make sure to RSVP for the 6/3 reading in NYC!

Have you ever been a deity of the dance floor? Where were you and what song was playing when it happened?
The “door dance” from when we were striking Hearts Like Fists! Another Adam play! I don’t remember how or why, but we all started dancing during strike and I just grabbed the rolling door and started dancing with it, jumping through it, spinning it, and riding around with it. I’m not sure, but I think it was to Jamiroquai’s “Virtual Insanity”. If it wasn’t, then maybe that’s just how it felt.
What’s inflating your balloon these days? (Giving you purpose, joy, fuel to keep going)
I feel like I’ve recently mastered the art of making fresh rice noodles. I’m very proud of it.
How do you keep going when the art you make goes splat?
This might sound bad, but whether true or not I usually tell myself that no one actually cares about my art, which frees me up to feel totally fine with “splatting”. It’s a similar approach I take when I experiment when I cook. As long as it’s edible, it’s all good.
Chester Poon (He/Him) is an actor and playwright. Recent credits with Flux include: Jane the Plain and Rebecca Roman Redd at the Most Dangerous Hour.
